ORADELL, NJ - The Crusader JV had an opportunity to host a team at the Jack on Saturday afternoon. Weather started clear and ended stormy for the Crusaders, but the game went just the opposite. Old Bridge drew first blood, recording a goal to beat John Coleman for the first time this season. Soon after,
Liam Agans erased their lead. The teams entered halftime tied at one and after a shortened intermission due to impending thunderstorms entering the area, The Crusaders got to work. Agans found himself matched up one-on-one with a defender and was able to out-hustle him to the ball. It was a 'tweener of a play, so the goalie decided to make an early play on the ball, but Liam go their first and popped the ball about twenty feet in the air, over the helpless goalie's head. It bounced about 4 yards in front of the goal and into the net to give BC the lead.
Lightning strikes twice. Actually thrice. And I mean figuratively, not literally yet. Just seconds after the go ahead score, Agans worked a remarkably similar situation, ultimately driving the ball past the goalie for an insurance goal with over 20 minutes remaining in regulation. The rain came and ultimately the lightning detector went off with about 3:45 remaining in the game and BC departed the Jack with a 3-0 win and 2-0 record on the new season.
