Camp Goals: The Crusader Football Camp aims to provide a fun, exciting, competitive football environment. The athletes will be challenged physically and mentally to improve as football players each day. Campers will complete the camp better prepared to help their teams achieve the ultimate goal of winning a championship in the fall.
Camp Director: Nunzio Campanile enters his third season as the Head Coach of Bergen Catholic. In his first two seasons, the Crusaders reached the State Championship game and finished 2011 ranked 31st in the Nation. After two seasons, the Crusaders sent 31 graduating seniors to play college football, including four to BCS schools and four to Ivy League Universities. Prior to coming to Bergen Catholic, Coach Campanile won seven State Championships as an assistant coach. As a QB coach, every player that started under Campanile received All-State and/or Division 1 quarterback recognition. Coach Campanile was selected to represent the US as a coach in the 2011 International Bowl.
Position-Specific Skills: Throughout the week, campers will learn the following position-skills to better prepare themselves for the season. Each position will be given a detailed seminar for off-season training for their particular position. Seminars will be age-appropriate to help youth, middle school and freshmen football players. All will participate in skills competitions.
Quarterback: Footwork, 3 Step Drops, 5 Step Drops, Ball Handling, Accuracy, Throwing on the Run, Throwing From the Shotgun, Running From the Shotgun, Game Management, Mental Preparation, Leadership Development
Wide Receivers: Stance & Starts, Footwork, Ball Drills, Route Running, Catching in Traffic, Blocking Technique
Running Backs: Stance & Starts, Cutting, Vision Drills, Footwork, Ball Security, Breaking Tackles, Receiving & Route Running from the Backfield
Offensive Linemen: Stance & Starts, Footwork, Hand Position, Pass Sets, Zone Blocking, Pulling Technique, Combination Blocks
Defensive Backs: Stance, Footwork, Backpedaling, Zone Technique, Man-to-Man Technique, Tackling Technique, Ball Drills
Linebackers: Stance, Footwork, Tackling Technique, Zone Pass Drops, Man-to-Man Technique, Eye Discipline (run reads), Pass Rushing Technique
Defensive Line: Stance, Get-Off, Footwork, Tackling Technique, Run Technique, Getting-Off Blocks, Pass Rushing Technique
